A dedicated public servant and lifelong champion of mental health, Governor Codey spent more than 50 years in the New Jersey legislature fighting for compassionate, quality mental health care.
His legacy lives on through the Codey Fund for Mental Health, the organizations it supports, and the countless New Jerseyans changed by his advocacy. This outing is a celebration of that legacy—and a commitment to carry the work forward.

Going Undercover
Governor Codey exposed deplorable conditions at Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital, helping drive stronger hiring practices and mandatory background checks.
A National First
New Jersey became the first state in the nation to require postpartum depression screening for new mothers before leaving the hospital.
$200 Million for Housing
As Governor, Codey established a mental health reform task force and signed legislation supporting housing for individuals living with mental illness.
